On not being Raptured
So, a week after The Big Event, and there’s no more denying the truth - I haven’t been Raptured. And I hate to break it to you, but if you’re reading this you’re probably still here too.
I can’t speak for you, but apart from the blaspheming and the fornicating, the not going to church and the coveting of other people’s stuff, I’m a pretty decent kind of...

"Breakfast at its best"
Loud and proud in their windows, McDonalds are currently advertising “breakfast at its best”.
Breakfast at its best is softly scrambled eggs on crunchy toast, fresh orange juice and a pot of steaming coffee. It’s newspapers and magazines on your kitchen table, the radio on, and the weekend stretching out ahead.
It’s brunch with your best friends in your favourite...

Things to do in Edinburgh when it's raining
1) Take your godchild to the Flaubert Gallery, to admire their new premises and his talented mother’s paintings. He will sleep the whole time you’re there.
2) Stop for coffee and piadine at the very charming, very Italian Sprio & Co. He will continue to sleep, despite your accidental-on-purpose prodding.
3) Spend the afternoon at the RSA Annual Exhibition so talented...

The 1950s housewife
I have decided to make a quilt. It’s partly about learning to sew, partly an excuse to collect beautiful fabric, and partly because it’s a whole lot cheaper than therapy.
Anyway, here’s some fabric, cut up and ready to go. Might be as far as it gets for a while…

Word of the day
Is petrichor - the scent of rain on dry ground.
One of the best smells in the world, it almost (but not quite) made up for getting soaked to the skin en route to meeting my godchild for the very first time. So soaked that I couldn’t cuddle him, for fear of making him scream.

this-is-not-me asked: While you're working out what you want to be when you grow up, how are you earning money in the meantime?

On being a grown-up
Here’s a thing. I’ve just turned 35 (a rather unwanted milestone in a single girl’s life). I’ve also recently become a godmother, an auntie and a bridesmaid, all for the first time and in pretty quick succession. And I’ve been wondering - does this mean I’m a grown-up now?
35 is half a life, or it is if you live the traditional three score and ten. In...

Democracy
Tonight you will find me at the polling station, casting my vote.
Because I’m lucky enough to live in a country where I can.

Things to do in Edinburgh when it’s sunny
Take yourself to the Botanic Gardens - preferably with a good friend, a good book, and a good few hours to spare.

Word of the day
Is deedy.
Meaning industrious, active, full of deeds - which is what I must be today if this flat is to stop looking like a squat.
