Scrapbooks
When I was young my grandparents lived in Kenya, and every couple of years we’d visit. We’d sometimes go for weeks at a time, and as this would involve missing school my mum would make us keep scrapbooks while we were there.
Heartbreakingly the scrapbooks got lost along the way, but I remember filling them with post-cards, photos, food wrappers, exotic foreign stamps and long lists of...

Dear America,
It’s lovely that you’re so interested in this wedding. It’s lovely that you find us so quaint.
However, (and please don’t take this the wrong way), we really, really wish your media would learn the difference between Britain and England. They are not the same thing.
And the Union Jack is not “England’s national flag”.

On marrying a prince
The entire world’s press is talking about how lucky Kate is to be marrying a prince. It’s every girl’s dream, apparently.

It’s much prettier than “can’t be bothered”.

A thing I just learned
Not to buy supermarket daffodils when they’re reduced to 65p. They’re 65p for a reason.
I bought three bunches last week and not a bud has opened. Papery petals shrivelling by the hour, they hang their heads in shame.

The all important first post
I’ve decided to start a blog. Partly because I’m fed up with people saying “you should write a blog”, but it’s more than that.
I’d like to create something outside of my job - something for me, owned by me. I’d like a new challenge, and something to do on a rainy Tuesday night.
That said, I’ve no idea what form it will take. For now I’ll...
